Sustainable groundwater treatment on the grounds of the former refinery in Leuna
55 m long, 30 m wide: Those are the dimensions of the groundwater treatment plant on the grounds of the former refinery in Leuna that Bauer Resources developed specifically for the circumstances on site. Since 2014, the plant cleans around 500 m3 of polluted water every hour with the help of millions of microorganisms, relying on a purely biological method to remove the harmful substances such as hydrocarbons, aromatic hydrocarbons and MTBE. The result: incredible electricity savings of roughly 70% as well as a significant reduction of CO2 emissions by 255,000 kg per year. For the city of Leuna this is a step towards an unpolluted future, and for water treatment this is an innovative and green technology that sets new standards.
