Soil remediation in former industrial area of Elmshorn

For a clean future

Where once the machines of Elmshorn’s leather industry used to rattle away, a dangerous inheritance was thought to lie buried for many years: soil contaminated with anthrax spores. The experts from Bauer Resources were on site to safely remove this part of Elmshorn’s town history. A total of 1,500 m3 of polluted soil were drilled out and replaced with clean gravel. But the real challenge came primarily with the elaborate disposal of the excavated material: First the soil was dewatered in two large tents and then packaged in more than 5,000 120 l drums. A demanding task that required the strictest protective measures and precise engineering.
