Rehabilitation of an industrial area for new residential/commercial development in Munich’s Werksviertel district
The iCampus project in Munich’s Werksviertel district is an impressive example of how a contaminated historical industrial site can be transformed into a highly modern residential/commercial development. Bauer Resources was responsible for the complete brownfield remediation of the site with an area of 22,500 m2: starting with the gutting and demolition of the existing buildings all the way to the subsequent rehabilitation work and soil excavation. A total of around 50,000 m3 of concrete was broken up and almost 125,000 m3 of ground excavated and disposed of. The challenges: a protected monument, more asbestos than was expected along with tight spatial conditions and a high volume of waste material in an urban area. But the project ran on schedule despite all the challenges thanks to excellent cooperation within our team.
