Excavation pit construction on a former military site in Frankfurt am Main
What can you do if a 15,000 m2 excavation pit needs to be constructed in an extremely short time? Then everything has to mesh properly and lots of work steps have to be carried out at the same time. This was the case on a former military airport in Frankfurt am Main: During the Park Trio project there, our team demonstrated what can be achieved when everyone pulls together. Up to a depth of 5 m, roughly 55,000 t of material was excavated – a wide range from unpolluted, undisturbed soil all the way to highly polluted material in some places – and brought to suitable disposal locations in around 4,000 truck loads. In addition, a dewatering system was installed including a groundwater treatment plant, and Bauer Spezialtiefbau carried out safeguarding and soil improvement work. Starting in 2027, the Rebstock site will begin its new future: in part as a residential quarter, and also as an educational site.
