Energy piles for the Circle at the Zurich Airport

A one-of-a-kind project, a powerful system

If you travel to the Zurich airport, it’s hard to miss the new commercial center “The Circle”. Bauer received the order to lay the foundations and construct an energy pile system for this prestigious project. A total of 1,150 piles were installed here with a diameter of up to 1.5 m at a depth of up to 55 m. Afterwards, more than 1,000 of these piles were geothermally activated and now serve as a central component of the heating and cooling system. What makes them unique: With a total capacity of around 1.8 MW, the completed energy pile system is one-of-a-kind in Europe.
